1999 - 2013

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must done,
For this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad - I understand,
Don't let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship will stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
What is to come – can have no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer so,
When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend,
Only stay with me until the end,
And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

Finally in time you too will see,
It is kindness you do to me,
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Don't grieve that it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do,
We've been so close, we two those years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I wanted an american pit bull terrier since I was 18 years old. It was back then that I first saw an advert for this breed and a little chocolate red nosed pup among the pictures. In an instant I was absolutely in love with these dogs. Their muscular silhouette never ceases to amaze me along with their drive and will to please. Unfortunately my parents were not as enthusiastic about the breed so it was not until 3 years later that an APBT set foot in our house. During those three years I bought APBT books, read articles and joined forums to get educated about the breed. Needless to say I am very thankful that my parents did not allow me to get that dog. I was nowhere ready for one.

Chiba came to our house unexpectedly when a litter of pups was found walking the streets alone with their mother. Two of the pups (Chiba and her brother) were taken in by a family while their mom and another sister were at a shelter. The family that took in Chiba and her brother could not keep them so people on a local forum tried to get someone to foster them. I mentioned that option to my family and showed them pictures of the pups. My mom found the idea of fostering horrible since she knew it would be hard to part from the pup and said she would rather adopt than foster. After some phonecalls and promises that she will be spayed and schooled, my friends went and picked up the female puppy since I was unable to get out of work. Thanks!

Chiba was originally intended for my brother but due to his work I had to step in and school the dog. We finished the B-BH obedience programme in autumn 2008. While we were training for B-BH we also attended a frisbee seminar and started with our dog agility training.
